Silk Road - Sleight of Hand Cellars Wine Tasting - 10/29/15 - Free to the public

1. “The Magician”

Silk Road Restaurant of New Orleans Wine Tasting Slight of hand the magician

100% Riesling Ancient Lakes

The 2014 Magician is 100% Riesling from Evergreen Vineyard located on the high cliffs above the Columbia River in the middle of Washington State. 2014 was a warm vintage, but Evergreen's cool site allows for extra hang time for the grapes, the result of which was more flavor, while maintaining the beautiful acidity that is the framework of this wine. Bright, crisp, and juicy are the hallmarks of this Riesling, full of green apple and pear notes, juicy minerality, and refreshing citrus notes. The subtle sweet- ness is perfectly balanced by the acids, and if ever there were a perfect wine for spicy foods, this is the one! Enjoy

2. “The Enchantress”

Silk Road a restaurant of New Orleans wine tasting slight of hand the enchantress

100% Chardonnay Yakima Valley

The 2013 Enchantress Chardonnay is from French Creek Vineyard in the Yakima Valley. Established in 1978 and from the original Wente clone of Chardonnay, these old vines struggle each vintage to produce the intense fruit we harvest. The wine is fermented and aged in neutral French oak barrels for 11 months. It is aged on the original lees the entire time, which we stir the first few months to increase mouthfeel and richness. 2013 was a warm vintage, but this site did a great job holding onto its natural acidity. The resulting wine is golden in color, and has aromas and flavors of ripe, tropical fruit like pineapple and guava, as well as classic wet stone and min- erality from the underlying basalt bedrock at French Creek. Enjoy now through 2020.

3. “The Spellbinder”

The 2012 Spellbinder is another delicious blend highlighting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah from some of our best vineyard sources. It is designed to be your every- day go-to-wine; whether on the patio, in the living room, or at the dinner table. This year’s blend is, as always, wonderfully aromatic, fruit forward, juicy, and immediately approachable. Red and black fruits dominate, with an underlying core of earth and spice notes, and a long, smooth finish. Perfect on its own, this wine also has the flavor profile and structure to stand up to, and provide complement to, a wide variety of meat and pasta dishes.

4.“The Conjurer”

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot Columbia Valley. The 2013 Conjurer was aged for 11 months in 15% new oak. This gorgeous blend is full-bodied and rich, with enough acidity to keep it bright and youthful, and make it a great “food wine.” The wine is brimming with fresh red fruits like cherries and pom- egranate, and has a beautiful herbal note from the Cabernet Franc. The lush finish carries the fruit on forever with well-integrated, fine tannins.P.S. A special thanks to NPH for lending us his face as The Conjurer on our label.
